Vanilla

demo of vanilla theme

notes on the theme

This is a vanilla theme of the old-fashioned kind — light, sweet and minimal with only a small number of files, stripped down code and no dependencies. It features a skeleton layout with minimal variation and a subdued colour treatment.

Layout & type

This theme is simple and minimal, a good basis to start from. Layout is responsive, the menu shows a toggle for smaller screens and the largest viewports use grid layout with fallbacks. The typeface is the lovely Vollkorn, a traditional and lovely serif by Friedrich Althausen. Colour scheme is earthy with soft browns and grey ~ calm and easy on the eye, good startng point. Lines are used in abundance, partly to emphasize layout elements for easy dev. The aim is to have a fairly empty slate to begin with ~ but one that already includes the basics.

Templates are set to feature the sidebar on the main pages (archive/category/page), presented in 2 columns when screenwidth allows. Posts (single) are set in a single column layout without sidebar. Search is included on sidebar only.
