Dig*P25 space
We will use our Google Space Dig*P25 to arrange what happens for our final session this year. You should be able to join easily by following the link, then joining this space.
If you cannot get to it - go to 'chat' and you will see the Spaces link. Click on 'Browse' and then search for it by name, under 'space I have not joined': Dig*P25.
As mentioned last week, this last week is led by you ツ I'll be online for the 11am start and will share the link to the GoogleMeet ~ see you online. Please use the chat in that space to suggest recap topics, ask questions or anything else ツ
During our usual session hours, my time is yours and I am more than happy to deliver a recap talk to cover any requested topics ~ or to meet with you online in groups or individually to discuss your project work, help you troubleshoot any issues you might have or answer questions on the project, the site, WordPress or any assessment aspects.
re: content text
- all content is unique and original
(i.e. not a translated/transcribed version of someone else's publication) - all content written and edited by you
(small parts of the content can be quoted from external sources but your own original content must outweigh their proportion in each post/page substantially) - all text is error-free and easy to read
(i.e. check spelling and consistency of tone)
TIP: a good post starts with a short introductory paragraph, followed by the main copy and media.
re: sourced content
- confirm the permission of use, either via open license or under certain conditions
- always cite the appropriate references for all quoted sources
- provide references and links as required by the license of the material used
optimise your media
re: images
- visual content in context with topic
(i.e. not a translated/transcribed version of someone else's publication) - optimised for web specifically
(small parts of the content can be quoted from external sources but your own original content must outweigh their proportion in each post/page substantially)
TIP: photos are best saved as JPG (not PNG) for smaller file size = faster loading.
deliverable 1: FINAL SITE STRUCTURE
This is your final content plan outlining the structure of your content. This has to be included in your project document.
- possible options: flowchart / list / spreadsheet
- shows your structure via pages and categories, typically via menu links
- includes all featured content
deliverable 2: COMPLETED WEBSITE
This is the core part of your project, submitted by including the link to your website in the project document.
NOTE: This is the '2,500 word portfolio' as referred to elsewhere. Importantly, remember to include your website link in your submission.
deliverable 3: PROJECT DOCUMENT
This is the actual file to submit (inc site plan + link):
a write up of the rationale behind your approach to the brief, your target group, your site's mission and your design thinking, ie theme selection inline with your goal.
- link to your website
- final site plan
- project documentation/report
While there is no point system for the assessments ~ I've had many questions about how your project will be graded and what aspects will affect your final mark. What follows is a checklist of the various aspects of your submission that I will be looking at ~ all of which we've discussed in class and hopefully you will remember their importance in regards to creating a good website.
Your submission must include:
-
the link to your website
included as one of the first parts of your project document. -
the site plan
to outline the structure of the content presented in you website, included in your project document. -
the project document
which will include the link and site plan and consist of a write-up of a minimum of 500 words (or more).
Your website must feature:
-
a clear and fitting title
This title will give a clear idea of the mission of your website and speak to your target group.
TIP: consider making use of a strong tagline to emphasise your site's goal. -
a concise and user-friendly menu
This means it will show short and meaningful link text and include only important links. Links to the privacy policy or the credits/references should not be added to the main menu but be clearly displayed elsewhere, like the footer, for example.
TIP: links should mainly be to categories ~ not posts! Avoid submenus. -
unique and original content, written by you
Proof read your text before submission and ensure that it is consistent in tone, free of errors, grammar or phrasing mistakes
TIP: read it out loud to yourself to understand how it flows. -
good use of appropriate media
Well considered images, videos and additional content which is presented well within the page layout.
TIP: remember to optimise your images, use the available blocks to integrate any visual media well within the page and don't forget to give credit where credit is due.
Your website must have:
-
about page
this page can be about the site or an introduction to you as creator of the site. -
text alternatives for all visual media
this is a required accessibility detail. -
cookie consent + privacy policy page
as per the GDPR legal requirement, ie the popup and link to the policy page (which has to reflect your site appropriately). -
information on any given sources
this includes references for quoted texts, credits to creators of visual material, be those individuals or generative tools.
