Dos & Don'ts
The following points outline the requirements for your final site.
Do
-
themes
Do experiment with themes freely but you must delete any unused themes before submission. There should be 2 themes in your final setup: your chosen theme and one additional theme as backup. -
plugins
Do limit your use of plugins as much as possible (see the recommended plugin list for recommended and permitted options). If unsure, please do ask us for advice. -
about page
Do include an 'about' page in your final site. It's up to you whether this page is about you or the site's mission. Your website must have this page to give some context to its goal and to state who created it. -
Gutenberg blocks
Do use the built-in layout blocks via the editor for editing the layout of your content. Explore the options and use the settings for finer control. -
credits & reference links
Do state clear references and include links to the sources for all materials from others. Paraphrasing text still means credit needs to be given. It must be easy to find this information. -
ALT text
Do summarise image content for accessibility. You can add this via the Media Library, or via the image settings in the editor. Importantly, all images have to include text that summarises the visual content.
Don't
-
no page builder themes or plugins!
Do NOT use any page builder plugins, especially not Elementor!! Nor Kubio! Nor Colibri! These are now considered bad practice. For more refined layouts, you can use all the layout blocks available in the editor. -
no plugins for ecommerce
Do NOT use any plugins for ecommerce, or for forums. There are no perceivable topics for this project which would require or benefit from these kinds of functions. -
no themes which require additions
Do NOT use poor, low quality themes. If you trial a theme which then prompts you to install additional themes or plugins, do not use it. It will likely be a poor choice and result in a slow website. -
no external material without credit
Do NOT include any third-party material, such as text or media, without giving appropriate credit. -
no search engines as reference
Do NOT state any online tools, such as search engines, as reference. This will not suffice and is not an appropriate or correct way to credit the original creator. -
no foreign language set for admin
Do NOT change the language in the admin, nor remove the main admin user. While it is up to you to work as you prefer, before submission, you must ensure that English is set as default.
