Winston Churchill - We shall fight ...

WHY DID I CHOOSE

A SPEACH ADDRESSED BY

WINSTON CHURCHILL

WHY DID I CHOOSE THIS SPEECH BY WINSTON CHURCHILL

This is a very well recognised speech that was delivered by Winston Churchill at the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom on 4 June 1940. There were three major speeches given around the same period, but this was by far the most iconic. I chose this speech because it is a true sign of British spirit, and it shows how much British pride we had at the time of the war. Churchill delivers it in a very powerful way, emphasing the 8 main 'we shall' elements of his speach. But by far the most recognised element of this speech is the 'we shall fight them on the beaches'.

WINSTON CHURCHILL'S ACTUAL SPEECH
MY DESIGN INSPIRATION

Winston Churchill was at the peak of his career during 1940-1955, a strong 15 year period. Therefore any design work orientated around Winston Churchill should take inspiration from that era and also World War II. I have gone for tradition war colours, and based the whole theme around a Telegram, as this was there version of faxes and emails. I have used a typewriter font, because everything formal was written on a typewriter. Any other large fonts or larger texts had to use a stamp, as can be seen by the large red text at the top of every page.

Emphasis is given to the main elements of the speech by having rollovers, they not only appear larger in font size but also a background colour is applied. This helps to build upon the theme of war and telegram.
